How the paver calculator works

The calculator multiplies project length by width to get square footage. It then converts the paver face dimensions from square inches to square feet and divides project area by paver area.

The raw count is increased by the waste percentage you select and then rounded up to a whole paver. This gives an order quantity rather than a fractional mathematical result.

If you enter a price per paver, the calculator also shows an estimated material cost. Delivery, base material, bedding sand, edging, labor, and taxes are not included.

Paver size and pattern matter

A nominal product name does not always tell you the exact face dimensions, so measure the unit or use the manufacturer's listed dimensions. Small differences matter when hundreds of units are involved.

Patterned layouts can create more cuts around edges and corners. Herringbone, diagonal layouts, circles, and curves may need a higher waste allowance than a simple running bond or stacked layout.

For multi-size paver kits, use the manufacturer's published square-foot coverage per pallet or layer when available because a single-unit calculation may not represent the mixed pattern accurately.

What the paver estimate excludes

The calculator estimates paver quantity and optional unit cost. It does not calculate excavation, aggregate base, bedding sand, polymeric sand, edge restraint, drainage, compaction, delivery, or labor.

Driveway and load-bearing installations should follow the paver manufacturer's system requirements and local conditions. Quantity math does not determine whether the pavement section is suitable for vehicle loads.

FAQ
How do I calculate how many pavers I need?

Divide the total project area by the face area of one paver, then add a waste allowance for cuts, breakage, and layout changes. This calculator does those steps automatically.

Should I include a waste allowance for pavers?

Yes. Straight layouts with few cuts may need only a small buffer, while diagonal or patterned layouts can require more. Adjust the waste percentage to match your layout rather than relying on one fixed number.

Does the calculator include joint width?

No. It uses the actual face dimensions of the paver you enter. Some manufacturers publish coverage per square foot that already accounts for spacers or intended joints, so use the manufacturer's coverage if it differs from a simple face-area calculation.

Can I use this for patios, walkways, and driveways?

Yes for quantity planning. The calculator estimates unit count only; base depth, bedding sand, edge restraint, compaction, drainage, and structural suitability are separate design decisions.
